Hundreds of people took advantage of a free food giveaway in Socastee.
The final mass food distribution of the year was held at the Socastee United Methodist Church.
About a week’s worth of food was given out to close to 400 Horry County families in need of food.
“This runs me about a week and a half and I have five people in my family and that helps me plentiful,” said Oscar Smalls of Burgess.
Volunteers from the groups Churches Assisting People and Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach helped distribute the food.
“There’s an awful lot of people who just don’t have any money to buy their own groceries. We have families and we have people that are on the streets and we’re trying to help out whoever we can,” said Robert Trepanier, Helping Hand pantry manager.
The food distribution was open to all families in Horry County.
