With a goal of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, hundreds of people laced up their sneakers for the annual Memory Walk in Myrtle Beach.

The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk was held at Broadway at the Beach.

In addition to the walk, there was entertainment for everyone who showed up, including clowns, men walking on stilts, and prizes for participants.

The Alzheimer’s Association says 80,000 people in South Carolina are living with the disease, so it’s important to raise awareness of it.

“There is not a cure for Alzheimer’s right now, but it’s important to continue the research of what the disease is about with the hopes that we can possibly find a cure for the disease and also to provide funding for family givers and for the Alzheimer’s patients themselves,” said Cawana Wilson program director for the S.C. Alzheimer’s Association

The Alzheimer’s Association says $24,000 was raised to fight the disease through this year’s Memory Walk.
