LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Pecan Festival a huge success for community, those involved

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Wow ... what a day!!

The streets of downtown Florence brimming with a sea of people, smiling faces (and over 120 classic cars!) glistening in the bright sunshine, five stages pulsing with music from over 30 different performers, children’s voices squealing with delight from every corner, multicolored balloons and smoke from grills filling the air, and tempting items from over 200 vendors at every turn, can only mean that the 6th Annual South Carolina Pecan Festival was a huge success!

For the past five years, we have consistently seen the Pecan Festival grow and exceed our expectations. After the enormous success we had last year, we didn’t think it was possible to do any better this year. But, not to rest on laurels, the citizens of this community came through like true champions and we shattered all previous marks! No matter what measure you choose, the 6th Annual South Carolina Pecan Festival was, far and away, the best one to date! The addition of the Pee Dee Blues Bash was a huge success which certainly helped take the festival to another level!

On behalf of the entire South Carolina Pecan Festival Committee, I would like to say “thank you” to everyone who helped make the festival possible. To the Florence Downtown Development Corp. and the City of Florence for going “above and beyond the call of duty” serving as hosts; to Piggly Wiggly and all of our many other sponsors for providing the crucial financial and “in-kind” support; to the City of Florence staff and employees for their dedicated service; to the multitudes of volunteers for generously giving of their time; to the multiple performers, exhibitors and vendors for enthusiastically sharing of their many talents; but mainly to the more than 55,000 festival attendees for joyfully sharing your day with us to make the 6th Annual South Carolina Pecan Festival one of the most memorable events ever to be held in the City of Florence. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all!

We went NUTS!

George D. Jebaily, chairman
South Carolina Pecan Festival Committee
