Three Florence men identified as members of the 900 Boyz street gang have been sentenced in federal court on drug and firearms charges, U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins said in a press release issued Friday.
U.S. District Judge R. Bryan Harwell sentenced John Marquis Johnson, 21, Anthony Terrell Stuckey, 22, and Quincy Aaron Moses, 19, to 15, 10 and five years in prison, respectively.
They are three of seven men charged in a 12-count federal indictment in December 2008. In July 2009, two more men were charged in a superseding indictment in which other counts were added.
Also known as the “O31 (October 31) Piru,” the 900 Boyz gang committed crimes during the week leading up to Halloween. Most of the gang members were arrested on a federal complaint Oct. 30, 2008, and have remained in federal custody.
The superseding indictment charges that on Oct. 27, 2008, Antonio Williamson, Victor Johnson, Tyreik Eaddy and Tavares Jacobs robbed plumbers at gunpoint of money, and that on Oct. 26, 2005, Tavares Jacobs robbed the Ingram Street Grocery at gunpoint.
Williamson, Johnson, Eaddy, and Jacobs are awaiting trial.
Stuckey was arrested Nov. 25, 2008, after Florence police said he robbed and assaulted three plumbers working at a house and charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, armed robbery, a parole violation and a probation violation, Florence County Detention Center bookings reports showed.
Police said three plumbers were working at a house on Dixie Street on Oct. 27, 2008, when four men carrying long-barrel shotguns and a handgun rushed in and demanded money. The suspects assaulted the men with the weapons and fled the scene with the victims’ wallets and mobile phones. One of the victims suffered injuries that required surgery, but was expected to recover.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Rose Mary Parham, who is prosecuting the case, said local, state, and federal authorities in Florence and neighboring counties are working together to combat the gang problem and stop the violence. The case also is being investigated by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, State Law Enforcement Division and the FBI.
