A Myrtle Beach Intermediate School student was struck by a passing vehicle Friday morning while crossing the road to get on the school bus.

According to Myrtle Beach Police Sgt. Jim Allen, the incident happened around 7 a.m. on Greens Blvd and 21st Ave. when a 10 year old at the bus stop ran back across the street to get her bookbag.

Allen said that's when the driver of an on-coming car struck the child. The child was able to get up and board the school bus.

The driver of the vehicle has been issued a citation for failure to stop and render aid and information.

The student suffered minor injuries and was released to her mom after EMS treated her.
