N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission investigating Maxton hunting accident

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Officials with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission are investigating a hunting accident that sent a Maxton man and his eight-year-old daughter to the hospital.

Wildlife officer Isaac Hannah says the incident happened in the woods behind the Midway Road area in Maxton around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He says the father and daugher were hunting in the area, when they were hit with buckshot. Officials believe another hunter mistook them for a deer. Hannah said officials believe the father was hit in the upper body and the daughter was hit in the stomach. He says the Commission has not filed any charges in the case.

The father and daugher, whose names have not been released, were transported to Duke University Hospital. Hannah said both are currently in stable condition.

The Robeson County Sheriff's Office is assisting with the investigation.
