After seven years of having more questions than answers when it came to Alice Donovan’s disappearance, her family will now have some sort of closure at a memorial service for the Galivants Ferry woman.
Her family has planned a funeral for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at Hilcrest Cemetery in Conway.
General Manger of Hilcrest, J.W. Russ, said the service will be held at the facility’s outdoor chapel.
Donovan was abducted from the Conway Wal-Mart in November 2002. Despite in-depth searches all along the Grand Strand, her body had not been found until this year.
Chadrick Fulks and Brandon Basham are both on death row, after a federal jury found them guilty in 2004 of killing Donovan and a West Virginia college student, Samantha Burns. Both murders happened in 2002; Burns’ body has never been located.
In early 2009, Fulks sent a map to the founder of the Community United Effort Center for Missing Persons, Monica Caison. That map showed where Fulks claimed he dumped Donovan’s body after the abduction.
In January, an extensive search took place in the Wampee Community of Horry County-where Fulks said the body would be.
Horry County police found human remains in that area-off Watertower Road-on Jan. 24, but they were too decomposed to identify. Those remains were sent to a clinic specializing in DNA extraction at the University of North Texas.
When those results came back July 24, 2009, that showed the remains found were that of Alice Donovan.
Donovan’s daughters said after those results came back, they planned on having a public memorial to remember their mother.
