Why do we need a smoking ban in Florence? The public and business world is doing a fine job on this issue.
Most businesses in Florence are smoke free by choice of the owner.
Libraries, museums and galleries, to name three places, always have been no smoking.
Elevators, lobbies, and hallways in apartment buildings have been smoke free for better than 20 years.
As for Florence remaining an island unto itself, it indeed can remain an island of freedom of choice in a sea of political correctness and unnecessary government intrusion.
I say to the Florence City Council and Mayor Stephen J. Wukela: Do your job and let private businesses do theirs.
