Decorated Christmas trees, holiday wreaths, miniature trees, mantle pieces and centerpieces will transform the McLeod Medical Plaza during the 2009 Festival of Trees, a two-week long holiday event benefiting the McLeod Children’s Hospital.

The Festival of Trees is scheduled for Monday through Nov. 20. During these two weeks, the public is invited to view the decorative displays in The Parade of Trees. This two-week long silent auction takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday in the McLeod Medical Plaza.

On Nov. 21, children can enjoy A Day with Santa, which includes a holiday meal (either breakfast or lunch), a gift from Santa, story time with Mrs. Claus, arts and crafts, holiday character appearances and a photo with Santa. Breakfast is from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; lunch is from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available by reservation only. Call (843) 777-2694; space is limited.

The public is invited to attend from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for holiday shopping, outdoor activities, food vendors including a barbecue tasting at lunch, and a chance to view and bid on the holiday decorations featured in the Parade of Trees (auction closes at 4:30 p.m.).

In addition, Chick-fil-A will be hosting a Festival of Trees fundraiser Nov. 12 at the South Irby Street Chick-fil-A. Stop by from 5 to 8 p.m. for food and prizes. A portion of the night’s proceeds will benefit McLeod Children’s Hospital.

The Festival of Trees will raise funds to support many new and ongoing programs and services at McLeod Children’s Hospital. One of only four children’s hospitals in South Carolina, it provides care to more than 26,000 children and their families every year. Without the McLeod Children’s Hospital, its Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), children and their family members in northeastern South Carolina and southeastern North Carolina would have to travel away from the region to receive life-saving care.

For more information and to purchase tickets for these events, call the McLeod Health Foundation at (843) 777-2694 or visit www.McLeodFoundation.org online.
