A pair of ordinances were given a second reading at the Williamsburg County Council last week.
An ordinance to amend an agreement to develop a “joint county industrial park” between Berkley and Williamsburg counties . County Attorney William Jenkinson, III told members that Berkley County is putting in a number of “additional tracks,” property in both Williamsburg and Berkley Counties which Jenkinson said will increase revenue streams to the Williamsburg. The agreement, which was originally reached on April 24, 1995, will be amended to include the additional property and final reading is expected for sometime in December.
The second ordinance dealt with the authorization of a waterworks and sewer system improvement revenue bond series for the Town of Lane. Jenkinson said the ordinance financial portion to progress with involvement from the United States Department of Agriculture. The ordinance would allow the county supervisor to “determine certain matters relating to the note,” including the providing of “form and details,” payment and “disposition of the proceeds there of.”
Councilman Bobo Huggins gave the finance report, discussing five action items including paying $3,297.65 in overtime payments to the Magistrates office, three days off from Dec. 23-25 for the Christmas holiday, and 350 hours of seasonal part time help from the county supervisor’s office and approval of an architect for the upcoming capital improvement project, which will renovate county buildings including the county court house. The council passed the recommendation unanimously.
Councilman Sam Drucker game a report from the Bid committee to approve proposals for the partial closure of the Salters landfill. The committee recommended that Sellers Construction, LLC. of Conway be conditionally rewarded the bid following a final review of the companies’ qualifications and analysis of the sight. The council passed the recommendation unanimously.
No actions were taken by the Building Committee.
Supervisor Pasley gave a brief update on the progress of the Health and Recreation Committee meeting regarding concerns of water quality from Salters residents near the landfill there. Pasley said a “lively and positive discussion” took place and a information will be presented to council and the Salters community at a later date.
In new business, members from the Williamsburg County First steps awarded the members of council with certificates of appreciation for their support of the organization in the past. The group also asked for funding for county youngsters to participate in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a program that provides books to children every month from birth until their fifth birthday in hopes of encouraging literacy. The council said they would take the request under advisement.
The council met in executive session for over an hour to hear updates and presentations on two on going county projects. No action was taken.
