JOHNSONVILLE—With today’s communication being as it is, one can never know for sure how news travels, but it does travel fast.
So it was that approximately 85 students from McDonald Elementary School in Georgetown and their teachers learned that the City of Johnsonville has a nice shady park with numerous pieces of playground equipment. These students and faculty members were passing through the city recently and stopped to visit the park. Actually, it was the destination for a part of their field trip day, something they do every fall in October. They had each packed a lunch and drinks were provided for a picnic in the park on a beautiful autumn day.
They came by bus after having visited the Brown Town Museum, a shot in the arm for local tourism.
It just so happened that there was someone at the Meeting House on Hampton Street to extend a bit of hospitality to the group by allowing them an opportunity to use the facilities to wash up before indulging in the picnic food and also to use the restrooms before departing for the return trip to Georgetown. The difficulty lay in getting the students to avail themselves in the enjoyable lunch rather than enjoying the playground equipment.
One of their teachers, Judith Generette-Rich, just happens to be a native of Johnsonville and boosts her hometown and the area every opportunity she has.
