MYRTLE BEACH - Leaders of the Myrtle Beach-area group “H.E.L.P.,“ which stands for “Help Eliminate Lousy Politicians,” have endorsed mayoral candidate Mark McBride and city council candidate Mike Lowder.
McBride faces a runoff next Tuesday against incumbent John Rhodes, while Lowder is challenging incumbents Chuck Martino and Randal Wallace for one of remaining seats on council.
H.E.L.P. was formed after the city of Myrtle Beach enacted ordinances earlier this year to curb motorcycle rallies inside the city limits. The group targeted Rhodes, Martino and Wallace after they voted in support of the new laws which critics say destroyed several local businesses that depend on the rallies for their livelihood.
In addition to announcing the endorsements, the group’s organizers say they are working to educate voters to make sure they don’t have any problems on election day and to make sure that same voters who voted in the November 3rd general election vote in the runoff.
The group will also hold a volunteer drive on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Chesterfield Inn, 700 N. Ocean Blvd.
