The Children's Trust of South Carolina Awards $260,836 in Grants to Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect

Columbia -- The Children's Trust of South Carolina (CTSC) is pleased to announce 2009-2010 grant awards totaling more than $260,000 to provide evidence-based child abuse prevention programs and other innovative parent support services across the state. Programs were chosen for their ability to identify and develop comprehensive and innovate child abuse and prevention strategies targeted to new parents, low-income parents, pregnant and parenting teens, and fathers, in ethnically diverse communities throughout the state.

Funding for these annual grants are based on allocations from Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) grant funds, a federal initiative originating from the Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. The Children's Trust of South Carolina is the designated lead agency to disburse this funding in South Carolina.

The CBCAP program supports state efforts to create and operate statewide networks of community-based, family centered, prevention focused family resource and support programs, which strengthen families and reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect. According to Sue Williams, CTSC Chief Executive Officer, despite economic challenges faced at both the state and national levels, CTSC is fortunate to be able to continue the commitment to community partnerships and provider networks to provide coordinated services and support to children and families. "These funds, blended with state funding, are available annually to support South Carolina's children and families."
