A Chesterfield man has been sentenced to three years in prison for breaking into the Chesterfield post office, U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins said in a press release.

U.S. District Judge R. Bryan Harwell of Florence handed the sentence down to 55-year-old Johnny Lee Burch.

Burch broke into the Chesterfield Post Office on March 19 and stole about $320 in cash and food during the burglary. Chesterfield police arrested him a few days later.

Assistant U.S. Attorney William E. Day II of the Florence office handled the case, which also was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
