»  Comments | Post a Comment

The local American Red Cross has provided assistance to a family of three who lost their home to fire late Saturday. The fire at 410 11th Ave. N. in Surfside Beach displaced two adults and one child. One member of the family was injured in the fire.

Already this fiscal year, the local Red Cross has assisted 58 families consisting of 181 people who have been victims of home fires. Of those individuals, 72 have been children and the chapter has provided some $29,000 in financial assistance. The chapter serves clients in Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties.

The Red Cross provides for the immediate emergency needs of disaster victims, which includes lodging, meals and clothing. In addition, the Red Cross can provide mental health crisis counseling to those in need, as well as assistance in developing a recovery plan to get the family back to pre-disaster conditions as quickly as possible.

For information about the Chapter, call 477-0020 or visit www.coastalscarc.org.
