I enjoyed reading your section on area museums but was dismayed at a glaring omission.
The South Carolina Tobacco Museum in Mullins is not only the official Tobacco Museum for the state by Resolution H.4750 of the General Assembly but it is also the recipient of the coveted South Carolina Heritage Tourism Award presented by Governor Jim Hodges on behalf of the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation, S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism and the S.C. Department of Archives and History.
We have hosted visitors from more than 21 countries, and states as far away as California, Oregon and Wisconsin, including groups such as Methodist Manor, the Presbyterian communities in Florence, as well as civic clubs, church groups and Red Hat Clubs.
We are open weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 5 p.m. We offer fully guided tours conducted by a very knowledgeable director and docents.
We have been featured in Sandlapper magazine, and twice on SCETV.
We invite your readers to drop in and experience tobacco farm life between 1700 and 1950. School groups and bus groups are welcome and we are handicap-accessible.
