Alzheimer's Association to have Memory Walk in Florence

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The S.C. Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is having its Pee Dee Memory Walk on Saturday at McLeod Health and Fitness Center in Florence.

Memory Walk is the organization’s national signature fundraiser held every year in November, which is observed as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.

Participants are asked to raise funds and awareness of the disease the entire year with the day of the walk representing a culmination of their hard work.

“It’s an emotional day,” said Elizabeth Brown, director of development for the S.C. Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. “It’s really all about awareness and the hope for a cure.”

Caregivers and Alzheimer’s patients attend the event and pay tribute with a time of remembrance at the start of the walk to honor the more than 5 million people across the country battling Alzheimer’s and the millions of others who have died of complications from the disease.

In addition to the walk, there will be live entertainment, sponsor displays, light refreshments and children’s activities.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 a.m.

Donations made up until Nov. 20 will credit the Memory Walk.

Visit www.alz.org/sc to learn more about how to sign up for the Florence Area Memory Walk and join the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
