Retailers tell consumers, the holidays are here

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Christmas season, at least for retailers, is here. Many stores are already decorated and stocked for the holidays to get you in the mood to buy.

Retailers have high hopes this shopping season. Stores across the country are closing daily, but larger discount chains like Walmart should see a big season. In the matter of a day or so, out goes Halloween and in comes the Christmas Shop. Retailers are stocking shelves for the holidays, coming off one of the worst two years in retail history.

Caitlin Cane took her 19-day old baby, Flynn on her first outing Monday and she ended up on TV. Is like a lot of shoppers this year and will work on a smaller budget. Cane said she'll get by a little easy this year. "I’m not going to be concentrating so much on her because she's not going to remember her first Christmas,” said Cane. “So, I'm not going to go out and spend tons of money on toys and stuff when really all she's going to do is eat and sleep anyway"

Scott Brisson, manager of the Carolina Forest Walmart said they plan to help consumers as much as possible. "In terms of numbers and sales forecasts, I think we'll do well in today's economy,” said Brisson. “We're challenged just like any other retailer would be. Our consumers are challenged and in today's economy, we're all looking for ways to make sure we can have the best, affordable Christmas holiday season for all of our customers."

The store expanded their 10 toys for 10 dollars program this year to 100 toys for 10 dollars. It's just an example of how retailers will mark down already reduced prices in hopes of getting a piece the holiday pie. Early consumer spending predictions look bleak. Unemployment continues to rise, which directly affects consumer spending just in time for the holidays. Consumers, however, can expect amazing deals this year.
