Myrtle Beach mayoral candidates make last push before vote

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The polls will open in fewer than eight hours in a number of municipalities in the Eastern Carolinas. There are a number of contested races around here, but perhaps none have received the attention, or the contention of the race for Myrtle Beach mayor.

And just a couple of hours before the polls open, many of the mayoral candidates said they are pretty calm and just anxious for the election to be finalized.

Incumbent mayor John Rhodes said he's making sure he's reached out to as many people as possible. "We'll probably have a few more phone calls to make tonight, but not too late because there's been so many people indulged with phone calls their getting tired of it and we don't want to upset them so basically just maybe take it easy a little bit."

Candidate Bea Catalano said she's calling her clients and telling them to get out to the polls and work. And Catalano said on Tuesday, she'll be up early, ready to go. "In the morning I’m going to start out at eight thirty, I’m going to go to my precinct which is Dunes One, I’ll leave there and I’ll visit all the precincts and see everybody and just have a happy day."

Candidate Matt McCarty, who did not spend any money on campaign signs, said he's going to relax. "I've worked really hard for the campaign so far and now I get to relax and see what the public really wants, so tonight, in particular, I’m going to go out and see an old friend and then I’m going home to watch, I dvr'd The Mentalist last week and I’m going to watch a re-run of that."

News13 also reached out to candidates Bill Howard and Mark McBride, but neither of them returned our calls for interview requests.

Just about all of the candidates said what's most important to them is that people get out and vote.
