The Coker College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) took time out of their weekend on Sunday afternoon to do a little community service. About 20 members of the SAAC spent the day at Kalmia Gardens helping to remove invasive plants from the flood plain of the Gardens.

"These student-athletes made some great strides to help reclaim the invaded lands for the native plants and wildlife," said Director of Kalmia Gardens Mary Ridgeway.

Student-athletes pulled huge amounts of plant material, including entire trees, from the flood plain to make room for the natural plants of the area to grow. The debris was later chopped into mulch to be used in other areas of the gardens.
"We had a lot of fun giving back to the community and helping clean up a beautiful area like Kalmia Gardens," said SAAC member and Coker baseball player Trey Lynch. "It is really nice to give back to a place like this, because everyone in the Hartsville community can enjoy it."
