MYRTLE BEACH - Memorial Day is traditionally the kickoff of the summer travel season. And with gas prices way down compared to this time last year, more Americans are predicted to hit the roads this summer.
AAA Carolinas predicted last week that the number of Carolina drivers hitting the road for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend was forecast to rise 5 percent, compared to last year. A major factor fueling the increased travel, lower gas prices, the average price for a gallon of fuel down $1.50 in South Carolina, compared to May of 2008.
