Transcript of a recent radio ad by the city of Myrtle Beach advertising there are no longer any bike rallies in the city in May:
This is an announcement for the general public from the City of Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach will not be the location for any bike rallies during May.
No one should expect the Harley-Davidson Spring Rally or the Memorial Day Bikefest to occur as they have in previous years.
The back-to-back rallies were too long, too large, too noisy and too rowdy. The community decided it doesn't want these large, unpermitted events, so they've approved a number of new laws.
Helmets and eyewear are required for motorcycle riders and passengers of all ages. Loud mufflers are illegal on motorcycles and cars and will result in tickets. A curfew is in effect for everyone under the age of 18. Parties in parking lots or landscaping are illegal, with fines up to $500. Indecent exposure or wearing a thong in public may result in an arrest.
Myrtle Beach is not anti-biker, but the huge motorcycle rallies are over. Everyone is welcome in Myrtle Beach. It's a great place to visit, but don't expect to find a bike rally.
