The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is evaluating a proposal from the Alligator Rural Water and Sewer Co. Inc. and Progress Energy Carolinas Inc. to construct and install an 8-inch HDPE water main and three-phase power line under an existing refuge road and within the road shoulder of S.C. 145. These utilities will serve a proposed development on private lands located within the boundaries of Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge.
A Compatibility Determination has been drafted and is available for public review and comment. All comments received by June 10 will be considered in finalizing the determination. Officials hope to make a final decision on these proposed uses within 30 days following closure of the public comment period.
To request a copy of the Compatibility Determination, to learn the final decision regarding this proposed use, for more information and/or to submit comments regarding this proposed use, contact Allyne Askins at Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge at (843) 335-8401 or allyne_askins@fws.gov.
