The group H.E.L.P. states it wants to get rid of what it calls "lousy politicians."
H.E.L.P., or Help Eliminate Lousy Politicians, bills itself as a grassroots organization formed to educate, motivate, and enlighten people about government.
Trevor Tarleton, Chairman of the Board, said the group plans to register voters and try to get more people to care about what's going on in the community.
Tarleton also said the group wants to bring in strong candidates for positions in city council for the November elections. “Things have changed and we tried to sit back and be politically correct and talk to people behind the scenes, council in particular and just weren't happy with the results, they seemed to be going backwards from what we consider the common good for myrtle beach and the tourist industry and we're just tired of losing tourists and running off business."
Tarleton said H.E.L.P. already has one candidate.
Don Emery, who owns The Doghouse South in Myrtle Beach, is running for city council.
H.E.L.P. is holding a meeting Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Revolutions at Broadway at the Beach. The public is invited.
Tarleton said city council's actions have cost the entire Grand Strand hundreds of millions of tourism dollars.
