North Myrtle Beach honors mayor, manager, and explorers

North Myrtle Beach mayor Marilyn Hatley accepts proclamation from council for her work during Barefoot Resort community fire.

It was an afternoon of check presentation and proclamations at the North Myrtle Beach council meeting.

Council presented Mayor Marilyn Hatley with an official proclamation, praising her efforts during the wildfire that destroyed dozens of homes in the Barefoot Resort community.

Mayor Hatley had to fight back tears during her acceptance speech.

Hatley said she was just doing her job and feels blessed to be the mayor of North Myrtle Beach.

Council also presented a proclamation to city manager John Smithson for his work during and after the wildfire.

Hatley and Smithson said the work was a team effort and thanked the people of North Myrtle Beach.

Also at the meeting, members of the group SOS, Society of Stranders, presented at check for $3,000 to the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety Explorers Post for its summer program.
