Carol Davis
Marion - Carol Davis, 55, died on Thursday, 30 April 2009. He was the son of Rachel Owens of Marion and the late Steward Davis. He was the brother of Al Davis of Paterson, NJ, and Annie Bethea and Harold Davis, both of Egg Harbor Township, NJ. He accepted Christ at an early age, and joined Centerville Missionary Baptist Church of Centenary. He lived for many years in New Jersey, and returned to Marion in 2004. He was employed by the Sea Watch Resort of Myrtle Beach. A funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Tuesday, 5 May 2009 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, with Pastor Henry McGill, Jr. officiating. Burial was at Old Ford Cemetery in Gresham.Tabor City – Marilyn Williamson Martin Soles, 58, wife of Allen Drex Soles, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 in Loris Hospital.
She was born January 17, 1951 in Marion County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Williamson and the late Martha Elizabeth Pridgen Williamson. Marilyn was a retired cosmetologist and barber. She was a member of Floyds Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving Marilyn in addition to her husband of the home are a son, Ancil Montgomery “Monty” Martin of Loris, a daughter, Tonya Dawn Martin Fowler and her husband James R. Fowler II of Nichols, 3 grandchildren, Ancil Jacob Martin, Reagan Nicole Fowler and Dawson Andrew Fowler, a brother, Keith Williamson of Mullins, and 5 sisters, Joyce Lackey, Janet Britt, Jean Martin, Sylvia Britt and Bonnie Johnson all of Mullins.
Marilyn was predeceased by her first husband Ancil Martin, 2 sisters her twin sister Carolyn W. Elliott and Bobbie W. Horne and 2 brothers, Robbie WD. Williamson and Elvin Williamson.
Services were at 3 p.m. Monday, May 11 at Floyds Freewill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Elliott and the Rev. Glenn Brown officiating. Entombment followed in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins.
James Anthony Watson
Marion – James Anthony Watson, age 78, died Sunday, May 10, in McLeod Hospice House, Florence.
Mr. Watson was born June 21, 1930, in Marion County, son of William Clarence and Ila Mae Duncan Watson. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May13 at Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Richardson Funeral Home.
He was a 1949 graduate of Latta High School and attended Clemson College. He served in the US Air Force for 14 years. He farmed in Marion County for several years and retired from Beneteau. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. He enjoyed cooking and good food. He had a special interest in gardening and collecting rare and unusual plants. For several years he and his wife belonged to a square dance club and they have maintained many friends from this group. His good-nature disposition and wonderful sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elvenia Keturah Phillips Watson, daughters Valerie Jo (Cliff) Tyner and Danelle Renee’ Watson, granddaughter, Summer Lynn Robert, great-grandson Scott Anthony Roberts all of Marion, brothers William C. Watson Jr., of Atlanta, GA., and Zack S. (Peggy) Watson of Marion, sister Katie W. Macon of Marion, sister-in-law Dottie Goodale and her husband, Bobby, of John’s Island, SC., and several nieces and nephews.
His is predeceased by his parents, a sister, Miriam Doris Watson, a brother, Edward Garland Watson and his wife Peggy, a sister-in-law, Margie Chapman Watson, brother-in-law, George E. Macon , Nephew George Earle Macon. Jr., and niece Miriam Watson Vereen.

Johnny Franklin Brown
Marion – Johnny Franklin Brown, 62, husband of Irene Owens Brown, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in his home.
He was born August 26, 1946 in Marion County, a son of Ruby Byrd Brown and the late Sandy Lamar Brown. Johnny was a retired gas truck driver, having driven for Mr. Leamon Shelley with Tri-County Oil Company and Mr. Gene Carmichael with Coastal Oil Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Viet Nam War. He was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church.
Surviving Johnny in addition to his wife of the home are his mother, Ruby Byrd Brown of Marion, a son, John Michael Brown and the wife Christy of Dunn N.C., 2 daughters, Diana Akers of Zebulon, N.C. and Donna Locklear and her husband Carl of Latta, 2 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, a sister, Betty Hayes and her husband Gene of Dillon, and a brother, Pete Brown and his wife Terri of Mullins.
Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins, with the Rev. Scott Collins officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.
