Surfside Wal-Mart evacuated for smoke

Smoke from a bad belt on a HVAC unit forced employees and customers to evacuate the Surfside Wal-Mart

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at the Surfside Wal-Mart Monday.

The store located just off Hwy 544 near US 17 Bypass was evacuated around 8:30 a.m. for reported smoke in the building.

Public Information Officer Todd Cartner said there was no fire, but smoke from a bad belt on a HVAC unit forced workers and customers to be evacuated from the store.

As of 9:00 a.m., everything was back to normal.
