TIMMONSVILLE — Members of Florence School District 4 received an update on the district’s proposed general fund budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year, which totals $6.2 million and has a deficit of about $600,000.
Mamie Tedder, the district’s director of finance, presented the latest figures for next year’s budget during a regular meeting Tuesday.
This year, the district has had to absorb $855,582 in state budget cuts.
The district’s Education Finance Act revenue was reduced by $653,445.
In order to balance next year’s budget, the district had to eliminate 22 positions, which included positions at both the district office and school levels.
Tedder said district officials are still working to find a way to balance the budget.
She said she is still waiting on the state budget to be completed in order to receive final numbers.
The district has also reduced the number of days employees work.
Administrators who work 240 days have been reduced to 235 days.
Custodians have been reduced from 260 days to 255 days.
Teachers and teacher aides’ work days have been reduced from 190 days to 187.5 days and 185 days to 182.5 days, respectively.
In other business, Superintendent Dr. Bertha McCants presented a price list for the contents of the former Timmonsville High School that will be up for sale May 23.
Items such as furniture, equipment and books will be up for sale from 9 a.m. to noon at the former high school.
