Datwyler Rubber and Plastics in Marion is closing in October, Marion County Economic Development Director Rodney Berry confirmed Tuesday.
The state Employment Security Commission is sending in a Rapid Response team to assist displaced employees. The plant, one of Marion County’s largest employers, once employed as many as 200 people.
The plant produces molded, extruded, and lathe-cut mechanical rubber goods, and is supported by an engineering center in Switzerland, according to the company’s Web site, www.drp-us.com.
It is part of the Daetwyler Group, an international business “dedicated to industrial component supply and distribution of engineering and electronic components,” according to its Web site, www.daetwyler.ch. The group’s four divisions — cables, rubber, pharmaceutical packaging and technical components — are focused on the manufacturing, pharmaceutical and datacom industries. It has also distribution and manufacturing facilities in Switzerland, Germany, France, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.
In July, Daetwyler Rubber opened a new plant in Silao, Mexico. The new production site is in Guanajuato state, within the so-called “Golden Triangle” of Mexico, and offers 5,000 square meters of production space, according to the company.
