Marion County Council will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday and Marion City Council will meet 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Both meetings will be in City Hall on Main Street. According to the agendas, Marion County Council members hope to have third reading of an ordinance authorizing the issuance of a special source revenue bond for Carolina AAC.
Council will have committee reports, made by Committee No. 1, chaired by Council Chairman John Q. Atkinson Jr. and Committee No. 2, chaired by Council member Elista H. Smith, and Sheriff Mark Richardson is scheduled to appear before council. Other items on the meeting’s agenda are a legal update, administrative update and council members’ comments.
On the City of Marion Council agenda, the first for newly-elected Mayor Rodney Berry and Council member Betsy Atkinson, is the election of a Mayor Pro Tem and swearing-in of re-elected Council members Poiette Bromell and Michael Baker.
Council members will read a Resolution of Appreciation for Beulah Taylor Bradley and one for Elizabeth Smoak and hear from Harvey Mathies of the Municipal Association of South Carolina regarding health insurance.
Also on the agenda are a presentation from Fred Gause of the Marion County Karate Studio, approval of a resolution authorizing the City of Marion to participate in an Identity Theft Program and the administrator’s report.
City Administrator Bob Anderson is expected to give an update on the city’s Web site and city services and to schedule a budget workshop. Various departmental reports will be given and public comments are expected from Liz Young, Ed Mason, Janell Davis and Pamela McRae, along with comments from City Council members and the mayor.
City officials are expected to enter into a session closed to the public to hear an update on a lawsuit and to discuss personnel issues.
