Finding a job in the down economy is a challenge. So, when a company comes to town to hire more than 100 people, it's good news.
Liberty National Life Insurance held a job fair Wednesday, hoping to hire new agents to fill its recently opened offices. Liberty is a 109 year old company headquartered in McKinney, Texas. A new branch office opened in Conway Tuesday and more than 100 people are needed to start selling their product.
The job fair attracted nearly 200 people hoping to get one of the spots. Patrick Scott graduated with a sociology degree a year ago. He now works for the Florence school district.
He said he wants to make a move to better his income. "I'm an instructional assistant for a school district,” said Scott. “The pay is not what I'm looking for so I'm trying to better my opportunities.”
Liberty representatives said the average income for a sales agent during their first year is about $60,000. They offer a full benefit package, including paying 90 percent of health insurance premiums. Agents receive complete training in about a week, including licensing.
Michael Kiser, a Branch Manager for Liberty National said, "We’re placing people that we have in these positions then they get trained, we're going to be able to grow even more, so a hundred positions that we talked about could be in the next 4-5 months, could be a couple hundred positions."
Liberty National just opened Conway, as well as, Wilmington and Florence. They also plan to open an office in Georgetown soon, which means they will need even more people soon.
