A Pageland man was sentenced Monday for his role in a July 2008 home invasion, according to a press release from the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Kenny Raley, 44, pleaded guilty to first-degree, assault and battery with intent to kill, and kidnapping before Circuit Court Judge Paul M. Burch.
Raley was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the burglary and kidnapping charges and 20 years for the assault charge. Burch ordered the sentences to run concurrently. He will serve at least 25½ years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
Raley entered the home of the victim during the nighttime through a window and, once confronted, attacked her and tied her legs with a telephone cord. He set off the home alarm when he went outside and tried to get the victim’s purse from her vehicle.
The victim identified Raley as her attacker because he’d approached her earlier that day asking to perform some yard work. After being detained, Raley confessed to the crime.
“By burglarizing, attacking, and kidnapping the victim in such a manner, Raley violated the sanctity of her home and this will forever weigh on her mind,” Assistant 4th Circuit Solicitor Adam M. Foard said in the release. “The victim lived on that block for her entire life and now she is scarred emotionally. This type of violent crime is intolerable.”
