MYRTLE BEACH - WBTW News 13 announced Thursday night that veteran anchor Martha Hunn has accepted the position of Assistant Vice-President for News and Public Affairs at Coastal Carolina University.
Hunn will anchor her last newscast on WBTW Wednesday, April 8.
Hunn has co-anchored the top-rated 5 & 11pm weeknight newscasts for WBTW since December 2004. She previously worked for WBTW in 1990 - 1993.
Hunn won numerous awards for her on-air and public service work while at News 13. The Myrtle Beach Herald readers voted her “Anchorwoman of the Year” this year and in 2007 and 2005. The South Carolina Broadcasters Association named her “South Carolina Anchor of the Year” in 2008.
WBTW General Manager Michael Caplan said, “Martha Hunn has always done an exceptional job representing News 13 on-air and in the community. It is with much appreciation and admiration that we wish Martha tremendous success at Coastal Carolina University.”
WBTW News Director David Hart added, “Martha has been a critical part of News 13 both in front of and behind the cameras. Her knowledge of the area and its history, as well as her genuine love for the people of Eastern Carolina, has earned her the respect and loyalty of our viewers. I wish her continued success in her new role at her alma mater, Coastal Carolina University.”
“Martha’s skills, her lifelong connection to our county and to Coastal Carolina University as an alumna and her warmth and professionalism will greatly benefit our university, county and state,” said Edgar Dyer, executive vice president of the University.
Hunn graduated from Conway High School and Coastal Carolina University. She resides in Myrtle Beach with her husband Ralph and daughter Brigitte.
