Two Bennettsville men were arrested Wednesday after police found three pounds of marijuana and cash in an apartment, Bennettsville Police Sgt. Larry Turner said.

Prentiss Jarod Gillis and Ronald Christopher Bethea are each charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana within a half mile of a playground, Turner said.

Members of the Marlboro County Multi-Jurisdictional Narcotics Task Force searched a home in the Hillcrest Apartment Complex located at 800 Oakwood St. Tuesday afternoon and found the two suspects.

Officers also found about $1,000 in cash on Bethea during the search, Turner said.

Police found more than $2,000 and counterfeit items in a van driven to the apartment by one of the suspects, Turner said.

Bethea also is charged with illegal distribution of DVDs and counterfeit trademark clothing, he said.

Police are still searching for the Mattie Fields, who rented the apartment where the drugs and money were found, Turner said.

Gillis and Bethea remain in custody at the Marlboro County Detention Center awaiting bond hearings.
