A Dillon man is being treated in a local hospital after he was shot in the buttocks during a shootout Monday, Dillon Police Investigator James Hayes said.
The incident happened about 9:30 p.m. on the 300 block of Mark Road when several men began arguing, Hayes said.
One of the men pulled out a gun and began firing, hitting the victim who was a bystander and not involved in the argument. The victim was shot in the buttocks as he was fleeing the scene, Hayes said.
Brandon Charles Townsend, 21, of 315 Reid Court in Dillon is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and discharging a firearm in city limits.
Police also found ammunition on the suspect, who is a convicted felon, Hayes said Townsend likely will face a federal charge as a result.
Police have yet to locate the gun used in the crime.
Townsend remains in custody at the Dillon County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
