Small busineses will benefit from the stimulus law

Small businesses represent half of the country's private workforce. They took a big hit in the current economy. But there's good news for some businesses. The new stimulus law will provide some welcome help.
When you walk into Sassy Girl boutique, fun is everywhere. Owner Vicky Castle said business is down a little from last year, but people are still buying her items.
For Castle, owning her own business is a childhood dream realized. "It's fun, it's relaxation, it's hard work, no doubt about that, but it's my baby."
Sassy Girl opened three years ago. Castle believes her years in retail as a buyer helps her stock her store with things people like. She admits the economy slowed her business somewhat, but fortunately her customers are still supporting her.
Castle is glad to hear of the benefits to small businesses through the new stimulus law, which include tax incentives and deductions for capital improvements. "In these economic times, I think we all need that little bit of help that we can get and wherever it comes from.” She plans to use any money she gets from the Small Business Administration to pay down debt and possibly expand. Until then, she's glad she can offer things to people that help alleviate some of their stress.
"Right now, people aren't going out and buying the big ticket items necessarily, they're coming in here and they're finding and treating themselves with a little lip gloss that makes them instantly feel a little bit better or the new pair of earrings that weren't that pricey to just lift them up a little bit,” said Castle. The Conway Chamber of Commerce will host a program this month with an SBA representative to provide the details of the stimulus benefits for small business owners.
