FLORENCE — An endowed scholarship has been established at Francis Marion University by the Aiken Foundation to honor Ann Burch Aiken, a lifelong resident of the Pee Dee who was a devoted mother, community leader and volunteer.
The Ann Burch Aiken Scholarship was established to honor the contributions Aiken made throughout the region.
“We very much appreciate the Aiken Foundation’s generosity,” Jay Dowd, executive director of the FMU Foundation and vice president for development, said in a press release issued by the university. “This is another example of the family and foundation’s longstanding commitment to FMU and the community.”
Aiken was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Samuel Bacote Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Pine Haven Garden Club, The Research Club, The Literary Club, The Authorian and a past president of the Junior League of Florence, as well as a charter member of the Florentine Dance Club and The Town Club.
The scholarship provides assistance in completing the education of Pee Dee students who share her love of learning and respect for their community. A female student who lives in the region and is in financial need will be awarded this scholarship.
Additional contributions can be made to this fund at any time. Contributions should be made payable to the Francis Marion University Foundation, P.O. Box 100547, Florence, SC 29502-0547.
