A Lane man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins said in a press release.
U.S. District Judge Terry L. Wooten sentenced 27-year-old Robert Junior Brown to 46 months in prison.
Kingstree police stopped Brown for speeding July 19. Officers learned that Brown had outstanding warrants and placed him under arrest. They seized a loaded .380-caliber pistol from Brown’s waistband and marijuana, ecstasy pills, scales and cash from his vehicle.
Brown has prior convictions for resisting arrest and drug charges and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The case, which also was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rose Mary Parham of the Florence office as part of Project CeaseFire, which seeks to prosecute those who unlawfully use or possess firearms.
