Helen M. Zeman
Marion - Helen M. Zeman, 89, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in McLeod Hospice House, Florence. She was born Feb. 19, 1920 in Brooklyn New York, a daughter of the late Francisco Maggipinto and Marie Pugliese Maggipinto.
Helen Zeman was a member of Marion Presbyterian Church. She was an avid golfer, gardner and loved fishing. She a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Survivors include Freddie Zeman, her husband of 71 years; three daughters, Eleanore Z. Barlow of Myrtle Beach, Pat Z. (Jack) Bethea of Florence and Jody Z. (Harry) Lide) of Lexington; two sons, Teddy (Angie) Zeman of Marion and Robert (Terri) Zeman of Columbia; and a sister, Delores Maggipinto of Westwood, N.J.; along with several nieces and nephews a very special niece, Laney Baumrind.
Mrs. Zeman also had 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Thursday, March 12, from 6 - 8 p.m. in Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion. A funeral is at 3 p.m. Friday, March 13 in the Chapel of Smith-Collins Funeral Home with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Iola “Nanny” E. McClellan
Nichols - Iola “Nanny” Edwards McClellan, 87, widow of Jack McClellan, died Monday, March 9, 2009 in Marion Nursing Center after an illness.
Mrs. McClellan was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Marion County, a daughter of the late William R. and Annie Letha Richardson Edwards. She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Southern Methodist Church.
Surviving Mrs. McClellan are two daughters, Linda M. Caulder of Nichols and Patty S. Parker of Nichols; 14 grandchildren; several great- and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Browder of Timmonsville and Annie Avery of McConnellsburg, Penn.; a brother, Ronnie Edwards of Nichols and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McClellan was predeceased by a son, Doug “Jack” McClellan.
Graveside services were at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 11 in Watson Cemetery in the Zion Community, with the Rev. Marion Watkins officiating. The services were directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Peter C. Evans Jr.
Greenville - Peter C. Evans Jr., 91, widower of Joyce Tefft Evans, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville, N.C., after an illness.
He was born on Oct. 18, 1917 in Marion, a son of the late Peter C. Evans Sr. and the late Margaret L. Evans. Mr. Evans retired from Pee Dee Ceramics. He also had worked with Caro Maid Ice Cream Company and Eastern Brick and Title.
Mr. Evans was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II as a Lieutenant. He served in the South Pacific, where he fought in six campaigns. Mr. Evans was a 1941 graduate of the University of Florida and a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was an avid golfer and member of Dusty Hills Country Club in Marion. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marion. Surviving Mr. Evans are three sons, Pete Evans III and his wife Mei-Fang of Beaufort, N.C., Phil Evans and his wife Cindy of Greenville, N.C., and Dan Evans and his wife Denise of Whiteville, N.C.; his grandchildren, Melissa Copeland and her husband Joshua of Greenville, S.C., Nathaniel Evans of Greenville, S.C., Crystal Davis of Whiteville, N.C., and Shawn Stevens of Whiteville, N.C.; and a brother, David A. Evans of Florence.
Mr. Evans was predeceased by a brother, Asa L. Evans, and a sister, Margaret F. Wood.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. March 15 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, with the Rev. Joe Long officiating. The services were directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Marion, 307 E. Godbold St., Marion, 29571.
