Two people were taken to hospitals after being shot during an apparent home invasion in Horry County.
Horry County Police are investigating the incident that happened around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police said it happened on River Bend Road in Horry County.
Lt. Raul Denis said paramedics took one person to the hospital because of a gunshot wound. Search dogs are looking for anyone or anything suspicious on Reef Road
News13 spoke with a woman who lives in the neighborhood, Donna Bass.
She said one man appeared beaten and to have a bullet wound on his back.
Bass said the other man appeared to have two bullet wounds in his stomach.
One of the men told her the apparent home-invaders stole his ATM card and ran.
Bass said the two men had duct tape on their hands, blood all over them, and were pleading for help when they showed up outside her front door. "I yelled at him what was wrong and I seen blood and he told me he'd been shot, so I freaked out, I ran a got him and put him in my house and locked the door, I didn't know where he came from.” Bass said the man came from her neighbor's house across the street and he told her two men were still inside the house, along with her neighbor. She said her neighbor showed up next, screaming and covered in blood and both men had duct tape on their hands.
Bass said, "I was screaming, I mean I was literally screaming I was so scared." She called 911 and tried to help them. "I couldn't see anything on his stomach or anything, but I put a towel on him and I guess my husband, I kept screaming at him to apply pressure because that's what the lady told me to do.”
Bass said both men had gunshot wounds and one looked liked he'd been beat up. She said both men were alert and talking when the paramedics arrived. She said after this, she will definitely keep her front doors locked. "Never in a million years would you ever dream anything like this, we just need more police officers patrolling, its broad daylight, and I mean it's scary."
Bass says after the incident, she may get another dog to add to the three she already owns. Bass said even though she never heard gunshots, she said she believes the shooting was random. She said her neighbor is a fantastic man who didn't bother anybody and never caused any problems.
