Bessie Deaver Phillips
Marion - Bessie Deaver Phillips, 102, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Marion County Medical Center after a brief illness. A graveside services was at 3 p.m. on March 7 in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Richardson Funeral Home.
Born in Mullins, Mrs. Phillips was a daughter of the late Sam and Betty Rowell Deaver. She is also predeceased by her husband, Harmon A. Phillips, Sr. She was a faithful member of the Marion Baptist Church, Cleaners Sunday School Class and lifetime member of Swamp Fox Chapter #87, Order of the Eastern Star.
She was retired from Belk Department Stores with over 50 years of service.
Survivors include her son, Harmon A. Phillips Jr., and his wife, Pat, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a grandson, Sam Phillips of Knoxville, Tenn.; two step-granddaughters, Amy Hutcheson and Heather Hutcheson, both of Knoxville, Tenn.; and two sisters, Corrin Griffin of Raleigh, N.C., and Inez Powers of Marion.
