POW/MIA monument dedication set for Florence Veteran's Park

FLORENCE - A dedication ceremony for a new POW/MIA monument will be held Saturday at the Veteran’s Park in Florence.

According to a press release from Rolling Thunder, South Carolina Chapter 4, the ceremony will take place at 2:00 p.m.

The Veteran’s Park is located behind the Florence City/County Civic Center on Woody Jones Parkway.

According to the release, Rolling Thunder began raising money for the project in 2008 to commission the design and creation of an American black granite monument honoring all former Prisoners of War as well as service personel once or still listed as Missing in Action.

The group says thanks to the generosity of the public, sponsors and region businesses, they were able to build and pay for the monument in just
under one year.
