A car collided with a Florence District 1 school bus Thursday morning as it was taking 33 students to school.
Seven students who were on the bus were taken to a local hospital at the request of their parents, Bill Kurts, the district’s director of transportation, said in a press release. Three elementary students who were riding in the car that hit the bus also were taken to a hospital.
The accident happened at the corner of Williamson and West Palmetto streets when the driver of the car ran a red light and broadsided the school bus, Bill Kurts, the district’s director of transportation, said in a press release. The students were on their way to Williams Middle and Wilson High schools.
“All parents of the students involved in the accident were immediately notified,” said Lionel Brown, the district’s assistant superintendent for administrative services, said in the release. “The remaining students were taken to school where school nurses awaited their arrival in order to continue assess their needs as a result of the collision.”
