Atlantic Beach mayor files federal suit against town officials

Atlantic Beach Mayor Retha Pierce is seeking a jury trial after filing a federal lawsuit this week.

The lawsuit lists five town officials, including the police chief and the town manager, as defendants.

Pierce claims that they conspired together to prevent her from finding out about illegal behaviors they were all involved in.

Pierce says she did nothing wrong to warrant her January arrest. However, Chief Randy Rizzo says Pierce used abusive language, was loud, and was screaming profanities prior to her arrest.

Pierce is still facing trespassing and disorderly conduct charges.

She says the defendants used force, intimidation, and threat to keep her from doing her job.
