A Hartsville man was arrested Tuesday after police said he robbed and assaulted a 62-year-old man, Hartsville Police Chief Tim Kemp said.
Larry Lee Blakney, 28, of 709 Camellia Lane is charged with first-degree burglary, Darlington County Detention Center booking reports show.
The crime happened about 11 p.m. Saturday at a home on the 300 block of Fourth Street, Kemp said. A man wandering around on the victim’s property knocked on the door and asked if he could use the bathroom. The victim refused, but the suspect didn’t leave.
The suspect knocked on the door again and this time, forced his way inside the residence and choked the victim, Kemp said. The suspect and a female accomplice took several items, including a computer, before fleeing the scene.
An EMS crew arrived on the scene and treated the victim. Kemp said police were able to identify the male suspect through an investigation and later arrested him.
Blakney remains in custody at the jail in Darlington awaiting a bond hearing before a circuit court judge.
Police continue to look for the second suspect who is described as a black woman in her late 20s, Kemp said. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police department at (843) 383-3011 or the state Crime Stoppers hotline at (888) CRIME SC (274-6372). Callers need not reveal their identities.
