The alumni weekend for Mullins High School is set for this coming weekend, with a few changes to its usual routine, organizers said in a press release this past week. Alumni games are set for Friday and participants are asked to remember that the event is a fundraiser and each participant is asked to buy a $10 (or less) T-shirt to play.
Also, there will be one fewer men’s game this year, for a total of three games: one girl’s and two men’s games. The alumni weekend needs more women to participate, if the association is to keep their game going.
“We are starting the men’s games at 1980 this year,” Coach Mark Gerald said. “We are not going to turn any former players around that wants to play. Anyone that played before 1980 that wants to play will be added on to that team. Game time is 7 p.m. for the women’s game, with the men’s games following at 8 and 9 p.m.
The annual golf tournament is Saturday. All golfers interested in playing in the tournament should e-mail Penn Troy at penntroy@yahoo.com the names of players. According to Gerald, participants should be at Pineland Country Club at 7:30 a.m. for the 8 a.m. tee time. Entry Fee is $42.
The annual July 4th cookout will begin at 4 p.m. Gerald said help is needed and more people should plan to bring food when they come.
“We are feeding anywhere from 100 to 200 people and that is a lot of food … we are getting food and donations from the same small group of about 10 people every year … more people to help prepare the food to be cooked,” also, he added, the same four or five friends and family members help my wife prepare the food and it is beginning to be a burden. “We need some more people to come by that morning and help prepare the food.”
More people are needed to help cook on the grills and to bring their grills, he said. Additionally, Gerald said more people are needed to help clean up on Sunday or Monday. Gerald said in his press release and invitation to the event that donations are needed to help purchase a Port-a-John. Finally, Gerald said, “Probably need to start bringing your own chairs, also.”
