MULLINS – Two men are in custody and charged in connection with an Ocean Isle Beach, NC, armed robbery following a Mullins traffic stop Friday morning.
According to a release issued by the Mullins Police Department, Jackie Ray Lundy, 34, of Pine Terrace Drive, Mount Airy, NC and Shane Eugene Fletcher, 44, of Crutchfield Court, Dobson, NC were arrested early Friday morning by Mullins Police Officers following a traffic stop.
“During the stop, a checkbook belonging to a Kansas woman was observed on the rear seat of the vehicle along with a lock blade knife, which was in the open position. The knife, as well as one of the suspect’s clothing, exhibited what was believed to be blood,” Police Chief Kenneth Davis wrote in the release.
“After a brief search, consented to by the driver, an identification card and driver’s license for Kansas woman were also discovered. While the driver was charged with violation of the SC seat-belt law and improper turn, both men were arrested and charged with open container violations,” according to the release.
“While the suspects were in custody at the Marion County Detention Center, a follow-up inquiry by Mullins Police detectives revealed the Kansas ID’s and checkbook belonged to the victim of an armed robbery and stabbing which took place while the victim was on vacation in Ocean Isle Beach, NC,” according to the release.
Davis wrote that Brunswick County, NC Sheriff’s detectives have responded to collect evidence and statements and have charged both men in the robbery and assault. The two suspects remain in custody at the Marion County Detention Center awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
