City of Marion Mayor Rodney Berry and City Council members are proclaiming, with Pastor Marvin Hemingway, that the next Marion County Youth Day will be on the third Saturday annual of the month of October.
This year, Youth Day will be on Oct. 17 in the CD Joyner Auditorium from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tonya Brown of TV15 News is expected to be guest Mistress of Ceremony.
Hemingway is in the process of forming a community committee to work with him to make this Youth Day a success and is hoping to involve the community as a whole to work together for the good of our youths, he said.
"Our goal for the youths of this community are the same, we want the youths, the parents, teachers, city officials and the county officials together to work on solutions to better the lives as well as to educate our youths to help them to become successful adults," he said, adding "We invite the community to get involve in Marion County’s Youth Day and we invite all suggestions and ideals to help it a major success."
Hemingway challenged city officials and city leaders to plan to attend the Youth Day.
"We need to give the youth something to look forward to, so they know that we’re standing up for them, not just locking them up ... we need to show them we care," he said.
