Dillon County authorities are treating a man's death in a house fire Monday as a homicide.

Firefighters were called to a home on Legare Street in Latta about 2 a.m. Monday.

The one person who was inside the home at the time, Harry Bethea Jr., died in the fire, according to Shipman’s Funeral Home of Latta.

Bethea’s body was sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy to help determine the cause of death.

It’s not yet clear how the fire started, but the State Law Enforcement Division agents are assisting in the investigation.

Investigators said they cannot release any more details at this time as to the cause of fire or the victim’s death.
