District 1 gives out awards at ceremony

Marion School District 1 had its annual End of the Year awards ceremony for 2008-09 on June 2, the last day of school for teachers and staff. Staff members with exemplary attendance received Chamber of Commerce Gift Certificates totaling over $19,000.

Years of service recognition was given to the following retirees: Marie Collins, Donald Cribb, Beldon George, Earline Nesbit, James Reid, Carlotta Wiggins, Alexzenia Wright and Inifa Wymbs.

Stacy Wilbanks was honored as the District Pee Dee International Reading Teacher of the Year and Marilyn Williams received the Bus Driver of the Year Award.

Velma Jennings received the Licensed Clinical Staff of the Year Award for Easterling Annex.

The following Support Staff Members of the Year were also honored: Angie Johnson, Easterling Annex; Leann Barber, Easterling Primary School (also won the overall district award); Johnny Leggette, Marion Intermediate School; Don Huffman, Johnakin Middle School, and Jennifer Harrison, Marion High School.
